Back to Study Options

It's been two years since I last blogged about my studies options in finishing my unfinished education in doing a Doctorate. Wow! That long?

Yes, too much work to do and just could not find the time to do any serious thinking about it. When I finally decided to quit my full time job one year ago I still did not finalize where to further my studies, although I did write to a number of universities to make enquiry.

One factor I considered was cost. So the dilemma is that when I have more time, I will have less money, so I have been quite reluctant to spend S$50k or more on course fee.

The confirmation regarding my studies came on 13 July 09, when the speaker, Dr Tan Khian Seng, shared about knowing God's calling. He asked the congregation to ask ourselves 2 questions and write the answers down:

1. What is the one thing that will make me very happy? (to check our passion to do it)
2. What is the one thing that will make me very angry? (to check our calling to change that situation)

For each question, I have very a strong answer for them - "to complete my PhD" and "injustice".

Now I have to make a choice on the offers given by different Australian universities:
PhD - by ECU (onshore campus)
DBA (by research) - by SCU (off-shore campus)
PhD - MU (off-shore campus)

Of the 3, DBA would be the least expensive, as I have been given advance standing and exemptions from my previous research and courseworks.

I have to make the choice very soon, probably by early Aug 09.
